Creating a maintenance plan is crucial in avoiding blockages, preserving the integrity, and protecting the functionality of infrastructure assets. Periodic maintenance effectively prevents smaller problems of wear and tear from becoming more significant problems of burst pipes. In addition, maintenance programs save money by diagnosing inefficiencies such as leaks. Unfortunately, maintenance is often overlooked until chaos ensues in the form of a burst pipe.
Municipalities and Townships across the United States perform regular maintenance annually for sanitary and stormwater systems. Consistent maintenance is the lifeblood of health and welfare for communities and demonstrating fiduciary care. SPS achieves efficient maintenance strategies with the following:
Hydro Jetting
Sewer system blockages are persistent and require high-power water jetting through multiple nozzles designed to eradicate debris off the pipe’s walls and corral it, with the assistance of gravity, into the line section to be expelled. Cleaning pipes vary in size from 2” to 96”. Larger diameter pipes are cleaned with the use of small excavators coupled with hand digging. High-pressure blasting with specialized tools is effective when hardened deposits have formed on the interior of pipe walls, lateral protrusions, or any object that may need to be cut, including exposed rebar. Cleaning provides a clear picture of integrity, leaks, and infiltration. SPS performs additional cleaning for:
- Wet wells
- Forecemain
- Catch Basins & Manholes
Leak Detection
Standard Pipe Services (SPS) detect leaks by thoroughly cleaning infrastructures to diagnose prevailing conditions. Undetected leaks exacerbate problems and increase the costs of repairs. In addition, cleanings allow preventative measures to remedy leaks.
Root Cutting & Control
There are specific cases where high-pressure cleaning is not successful in removing roots. In these cases, SPS reaches into its arsenal for specialty tools to expedite the process. Some such tools are:
- Lumberjack cutters that attach to the jetter hose. The blades propel against the circumference of the pipe to cut large, heavy roots.
- A Schalwm cutting tool is required if the roots are exponentially thick or if there is a pipe protruding on the inside. This tool is reserved for areas with ductile iron protruding laterals.
- Root foam is used in cases where pipes are infested with roots. After infusing the line section with root foam, the dead roots are cut about 1 to 3 months later. Root foaming proves useful in landscapes with high-density trees. SPS can perform up to 2,000 LF of Root foaming a day.
