Cementitious Storm Sewer Relining is a popular method for CMP storm sewer pipes. Aging infrastructure has recently come to the forefront as pipes deteriorate across the country at the bottom inverts. Storm sewer pipes are large in diameter and about 100 feet in length. Due to their size, excavating, replacing, or relining line sections with polyurethane materials is usually not efficient or cost-effective.
Cementitious Relining is an extensive practice; however, the cost of the cement material makes it more efficient and cost-effective than any other method. Standard Pipe Services’ process is as follows:
- First, the bypass is set up to dewater the line section and route the water somewhere else.
- Second, SPS thoroughly cleans the line section. It is not uncommon for sewers to be access points for creeks and other waterways, resulting in several days to clean one line section.
- Third, SPS preps the storm sewer with cementitious patch materials to flatten the bottom and remove rust spots or holes in the pipe.
- Fourth, relining begins! Depending on the size of the pipe or situation, SPS will spray the pipe by hand or by pulling a spincast machine through the pipe. There are videos on the Strong Seal . Typically, line sections are relined at 1.5″ to 2″ in thickness.
- When the work is completed, Standard Pipe Services will post-televise the line section and provide the deliverables to the engineer.
Standard Pipe Services (SPS) implements trenchless technology for all pipe rehabilitations. Pipe rehabilitation is the repairing or replacement of the underground network of sewer and water pipelines. To quote or blog on trenchless technology:
Trenchless Technology incorporates several pipe rehabilitation methods with little to no digging and is eco-friendly. It is, as it sounds, ‘trenchless’. Trenchless technologies offer quick, cost-effective solutions for repairing or replacing pipes and manholes while featuring non-disruptive strategies.
By cost-effective, trenchless doesn’t save pennies – it is about HALF the cost of digging up lines under the pavement or surface. Before trenchless technology, you would have to replace more of your sidewalk, driveway, decorative pavers, or cobblestone. Trenchless is a considerable money saving. Most trenchless repairs take one day and a few workers. But this is not every case. Contact us today to discuss how we can help you. You may also find helpful answers in our Blog or FAQ.
